NOPI No More!

Wednesday, July 23rd, 2008

Nopi Motosports LLC. released an email last week stating that the company (an offspring company from it’s parts department called NOPI as in Number One Parts Incorporated), has canceled the rest of it’s NDRA, and NOPI DRIFT event shows for the ‘08 season. This also includes the famous Nopi Nationals Supershow, which in history has always been one of the biggest car show events in America with over 100,000 spectators and 450 car show entries, just last year. Nopi Nationals has a series of car show competitions including audio, hydraulics, burn out, and best in show. It also featured a thrilling Drift Demo by pro-drifter and owner of SlideStyle.com, Andy Sapp, and some other Drift Mechaniks, like Erin Stanford. Last year the show included the NOPI DRIFT World Finals, which featured other Drift Mechaniks like, Cody Wellons and Johnathan Martin. …and the long weekend always ended with a banging performance by artist like Ludacris and Skid Row in 2006, and T.I. in 2007.

Now the big question prevails, what about this year? Rumors are the AMS (Atlanta Motor Speedway) is going to throw their own event for the full 2 days with a possible drift competition in the middle of the track, many booths (but probably not as many as usual), a car show competition like always, a musical performance like always, and more. Don’t expect it to be as big as NOPI, but don’t cancel your hotel reservations just yet. I think if anything, this event might even be much better and entertaining. Only time will let, but from the sounds of it, this event will finally be thrown by car enthusiast for car enthusiast, which is exactly what NOPI lacked.
